Homemade Apple Pie
2 tbsp. flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup Allen’s apple juice
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 pinch nutmeg
5 cups of apples (Cortland or Empire)
1 tbsp butter chopped in dices
1 pie crust recipe or store made pie dough.
1 egg, beaten
-
Preheat oven to 425 °F.
-
On a lightly floured surface, roll half the dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle; transfer to a 9-in. pie plate. Chill while preparing filling.
-
In a large bowl, combine sugar, apple juice, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg.
-
Peel apples, remove cores and cut in pieces, Add the apple to the sugar and spices mix and stir to coat the apple. Add apple mixture, mounding slightly in the center and being careful not to get the filling on the edges which would make it difficult to seal.
-
Sprinkle butter dices on the filling. Roll second crust into a 10-in circle and place on top of the pie. Press side with finger or fork to seal the sides.
-
Brush the top with egg mixture.
-
Bake at 425˚F in the center of the oven for 15 minutes.
-
Reduce the heat to 350˚F and continue baking another 45 minutes or until apples are soft.
-
Rest at room temp 1 hour and enjoy.
